Finding Antiques at Yard Sales
The spring season has finally spring and if you're like me, you know what that means! We're no longer limited to a series of indoor estate sales and auctions. There will be yard sales and garage sales from now through the fall, with a few town-wide vents scattered in between the regular weekend happenings. And you know (or should know) the routine. You have to keep your eyes peeled for things that might actually be valuable - like antiques and collectables. Sadly, a lot of people have no idea what they're throwing away, and it's your job to find it. Today I ...
A One Million Dollar Appraisal
I have to admit, I really love watching the Antiques Roadshow. There are so many incredible pieces shown on the road, from artwork to sculptures and off-the-wall antiques. Take a look at this clip from the 2010 season premier of the Antiques Roadshow. While watching this clip you'll see a stunning display of antique jade dating back to the 18th Century (back in the 1700's). This woman not only holds some very valuable pieces of jade, but also earned the distinct pleasure of receiving the highest total appraisal ever on the US version of the Antiques Roadshow! httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1CEbl9cK3o
Collecting Antique Glassware
If you thought your collection of antique glassware was huge, wait until you meet Statia Widak. She has more than 100,000 pieces of glass from a wide variety of manufacturers. Some of her pieces are well over 100 years old. If you're thinking of adding glass to your collection of antiques and collectables than this is a video you should definitely check out. If nothing else, Statia is certainly inspirational! httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDxm4gvb43A

Selling on eBay with Dennis Prince
So not long ago I stumbled upon a review of a book called How to Sell Antiques and Collectibles on eBay...and Make a Fortune by Dennis L. Prince. At first I was a bit put off at the idea of another guy trying to write another book about how to make money on eBay but after taking a closer look I gave the book a second chance. Sure, you could easily ask a guy like me what he's doing to get his antiques and collectibles to sell but while I'm making a nice side-income I'm certainly not a $20,000 per month ...
Halloween Collectables
I hadn't really thought about it before today, but it appears that Halloween collectables are quickly becoming items of interest. They of course sell better right before the holiday season but goblins, ghosts, carved pumpkins, and an assortment of Halloween-inspired trinkets are all the rave. Halloween was traditionally a holiday designed to honor the souls of those who have already passed on. Often celebrated in Mexico, celebrants often decorate their homes and leave offerings of food, candy, and beverages at the gravesites of those who have passed on before them. As times changed, we began focusing more on ghosts and developing a ...
Antiques Roadshow in Althorp (P3)
In the second part of the BBC Antiques Roadshow in Althorp, Lord Spencer asked for expert help identifying a piece from his collection. In this third and final part (from us here at Frank's Attic Collectables, anyway) one of the experts comes out to help verify the validity of the piece in question. Was the statue in question really part of Napoleon's personal collection? httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvuX26pJR9U&feature=related
Antiques Roadshow in Althorp (P2)
The folks from the BBC Antiques Roadshow are continuing their discovery of the amazing antiques contained in Althorp. Plus, in this segment, they actually speak to Lord Spencer to get some detailed information about the collection (and the correct pronunciation of Althorp)! httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGY6OKfsDic&feature=related
